From the Principal….

Term 4 - Week 10

Last Wednesday we held our annual Awards Assembly. Although COVID restrictions meant that we again couldn’t have our normal event, we were lucky that each grade 6 student could have one parent in attendance. Thank you to Mrs Towns, Mrs Cummings and Mrs Read, supported by Mrs Carr and Mrs Chugg. To Mrs Foley for the Artwork and to our EFA’s Gabby Anderson and Nick Ainslie for their assistance in setting up. Our presenters Gabe and Willow led the proceedings in a very accomplished manner. The grade 6 students and guests enjoyed an informal lunch on the lawn after the assembly.

Congratulations to our Grade 6 Leavers and to those who received awards in recognition of their efforts in 2021. A list of award recipients appears in this newsletter.

Grade 6 students held their leavers dinner last Thursday evening at Silks restaurant and completed their celebrations with a trip to Airtime 360 on Monday.  Please check our Facebook page for Leaver's photos.

As we finish our final week of the school year it’s a great chance to reflect.

We have continued to embed our work in the teaching of reading and teachers have had the opportunity to work with Mrs Dennis in her new role as Lead Quality Teaching Coach for Numeracy. This has enabled us to achieve some pleasing results in a number of areas.

We are grateful for the support of the Benevolent Society, Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise, The Smith Family, Catholicare, and City Mission. Thank you also to those who have volunteered in a variety of ways to support our school.

As the end of the year draws closer, it is time to farewell staff. Mrs Cummings will be leaving us to teach at Norwood Primary, Mrs Watson will take a position at the Northern Support School, Mr Wheeler will be moving to Youngtown Primary and Mrs Shaw to Scotch Oakburn College. We also farewell our Social Worker Steven Wright. We wish them all the success on their moves and thank them for their dedication to our students and school.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to working with you again in 2022.

4/5 Cummings Christmas Hamper Donations

This term we have been focusing on EMPATHY and putting ourselves in other people’s shoes. We decided to bring in some food items and put together 23 hampers to donate to people less fortunate than ourselves. We managed to organise 10 items for each bag. A big thank you must go to Lindy Perkins who assisted us with donations and volunteering her time. We would also like to thank Bridget and Mrs Evans for their donations and time. On Thursday 2nd December we delivered the Christmas hampers to Strike It Out and had a tour of the facilities.
