Waverley Primary School is situated in the heart of the Waverley community. The school is positioned within a natural environment and we enjoy impressive views of Waverley Lake and the surrounding rural landscape.

The school was originally opened in 1958 and, since then, has undergone a number of improvements and re-developments in order to offer a range of classroom and specialist learning spaces. With approximately 160 students, we have 32 full and part time staff, including teaching staff, teacher assistants, office staff, facilities staff and support staff (including Chaplain, Speech and Language Pathologist, School Nurse, School Psychologist, Wellbeing Officer and Social Worker).

The school motto, ‘Waverley - a place to shine’, informs our daily practice and our SHINE school values:

  • We are Safe
  • We are Helpful
  • We are Inclusive
  • We are Excellent

At Waverley Primary, positive relationships and communication between all members of the school community underpin student success. We have developed a nurturing, safe and inclusive learning environment, provide high level support for student and family wellbeing and have a close working relationship with a range of support services. Our school has forged strong community partnerships and we support and co-ordinate a range of community services including Catholicare, Smith Family, Northern Early Years Group, Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise and the Launceston Benevolent Society.

We actively encourage parent participation within the school and, through a range of LiFT strategies, work to support parents’ engagement in their children’s education. A number of Early Years programs are offered. We also work closely with the Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS), who provide an intervention program that operates alongside our programs.

At Waverley Primary we hold high expectations for every learner and are committed to ensuring that every student achieves and exceeds their potential. We offer a range of extra-curricular programs that support our students to develop real world skills, whilst also developing their social and emotional wellbeing.
